Kenyan incumbent Telkom Kenya has won the country’s third 3G licence, the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) has confirmed to journalists. Telegeography reports that it may have paid US$10m.
Speaking to the press, the CCK’s director general Charles Njoroge was cited saying that services could be launched as soon as early next year.
Safaricom and Zain Kenya – now known as Airtel – already own 3G licences, which they acquired for US$25m and US10m in 2007 and 2010 respectively.
Separately, Airtel Kenya has said it will start rolling out its own 3G network in early 2011.
