PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) has appointed Macquarie Group to advise on the acquisition of SingTel’s 9,000 towers it owns via a 35% holding in PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) for around US$1bn.
The towers are owned by Telkomsel, in which Telkom owns 65% and SingTel owns the remaining 35%.
The deal is expected to close this year and, once it is completed, Telkom will consolidate the towers under its own infrastructure unit PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Mitratel).
The firm may then list Mitratel on the local bourse.
