The Televisa Consortium has emerged as the sole bidder for the Mexican dark fibre auction.
The Mexican Secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) announced local media firm Televisa was the sole bidder to be approved and qualify for the dark fibre strands the state controlled power firm CFF is auctioning off.
The Televisa Consortium is made up of Televisa, Megacable and Telefonica. Other bidders for the strands include local mobile operator Iusacell, which failed to have its application approved.
The CFF is leasing two strands, which will cover some 20,000km across Mexico, lasting each for a 20 year time period. The auction is scheduled to commence on May 25 and conclude on June 9. Televisa still needs to make a formal bid, accepting all conditions.
