Only days after the announcement of a major reorganisation of Telefonica’s organisational structure, Norwegian counterpart Telenor appears to follow suit, announcing its own reshuffle.
The changes include the creation of three new units, and several management changes in that context.
Like Telefonica, the company will create a new Digital Services unit in the light of “increased competition from both old and new market players,” Telenor said in a company announcement. The digital unit will focus on “Telenor’s position in the emerging internet-based ecosystem”. It will be set up and headed by EVP Kristin Skogen Lund, who is already and continues to be a member of Telenor’s Group Executive Management (GEM).
The company also announced the creation of a Group Industrial Development department that will deal with efforts to increase operational efficiency, synergies across different business units and innovation in core business offerings. This department will be headed by Hilde Tonne, who will also join Telenor’s GEM.
Within this unit Ragnar Karhus, former CEO of Telenor Norway, will take charge of cross border initiatives.
Finally, the creation of a Corporate Strategy and Regulatory Affairs unit was announced. This new section, headed by GEM member Morten Karlsen Sorby, will report directly to the Telenor Group CEO.
“The organisational changes are designed to improve Telenor’s ability to innovate in and execute upon the vast opportunities and challenges we see emerge on the telecom horizon,” Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO of the Telenor Group, said.
Last week Telefonica had also announced a set of major changes to its organisational structure, saying it would integrate its Spanish operations into its European business and it would create two new divisions, Telefonica Digital, based in London, and a new Global Resources unit.
