A leading executive at Telenor India said today that clarity in regulatory policy is a major challenge in the Indian market. But more clarity is coming, he said, suggesting that this will encourage investors.
Speaking at the MWC in Barcelona, Rajiv Bawa, chief representative officer at Telenor India, said that the Indian government, particularly at a local level, understands the value brought by the telecoms industry.
Bawa argued that the problem has been that growth in the country has been “phenomenal”, but more regulatory clarity is now coming.
“It’s getting better and the future is only bright,” Bawa said.
Bawa was speaking in the wake of the decision by the Indian Supreme Court to cancel 122 2G licences in the country. This decision has led to a dispute between Norway-based Telenor and its Indian partner Unitech.
