Belgian cableco Telenet intends to nominate Bert De Graeve as its next chairman.
The board of directors will propose at its next AGM on 30 April that De Graeve and Stefan Descheemaeker be appointed independent directors in their capacities as representatives of IDw Consult and SDS Invest respectively.
Provided shareholders approve De Graeve’s appointment as an independent director, the board will also nominate him as chairman.
Current chairman Frank Donck, whose term is set to expire, said both De Graeve and Descheemaeker are “well-acquainted with the Belgian context in which Telenet operates and … have extensive international experience and an extraordinary level of strategic and financial expertise”.
De Graeve held international management roles with Alcatel before becoming managing director of local public broadcaster VRT in 1996. In 2002 he became CFO of international steel wire company Bekaert and was made CEO in 2006. He will become chairman of Bekaert on 14 May this year and also serve as an independent director of UCB.
Controlled by Liberty Global, Telenet is Belgium’s largest cable TV operator. The Brussels-listed company offered quadruple-play services to 4.6 million service subscribers as of 31 December 2013, according to the parent company.
