The Serbian government formally adopted a decision last Thursday to sell a 51% stake in Telekom Srbija, a spokesperson said.
A public tender is expected to be announced in the next few days, the spokesperson added.
Citigroup is advising the government on the process. Reuters reports that the government accepted a report from its adviser, valuing the operator at E2.43bn.
Serbia owns 80% of the telecoms incumbent, while Deutsche Telekom-owned OTE owns the rest. With a foot already in the company the Greek operator is well placed to take control of Telekom Srbija, but Telenor and Telekom Austria, which are already present in the mobile market, are also potential candidates. In addition, Telefonica and Libyan state-owned telecoms holding company LAP Green Networks have already expressed their own interest.
