The deadline for second-round bids for Telekom Slovenije is reportedly likely to be extended to mid-February as a result of lawsuits brought against the operator.
The initial deadline next week is expected to be pushed back as prospective buyers want more time to consider the potential consequences of the lawsuits, Slovenia’s Finance.si reported citing unidentified sources.
The Slovenian incumbent has been subject to multiple lawsuits recently, some of them reportedly linked to abuse of market position. Telekom Slovenije announced it resolved two of the lawsuits this January in its favour.
However, also this month, the operator said it had received a proposal from the Ljubljana District Court to reopen a case brought by smaller rival T-2 seeking compensation of €129.6m. The incumbent has said it will respond to the proposal within the lawful time period, adding that it believes the case for doing so is “entirely unfounded”.
Deutsche Telekom, which has assets in other parts of the CEE region, is widely considered to be the favoured buyer. In December, local media reported that the German incumbent and US private equity firm Providence are the sole two suitors remaining.
Previous suitors reportedly included private equity firms Cinven, Bain Capital and Apax Partners.
