Telekom Austria said today it has no indication about a potential recent acquisition of a substantial stake in the company. The statement came in reply to a report claiming Austrian investor Ronny Pecik wants to acquire up to 20% in the Austrian telco. The unsourced report in Austrian Format magazine said Egyptian telecoms investor Naguib Sawiris is among the investors, who expect to pay around E750m (US$1.04bn) for the stake.
Telekom Austria pointed out that shareholders are subject to stock exchange regulation, which requires them to disclose the acquisition of significant stakes, specifically if the shareholder’s stake breaches certain thresholds (5%-steps from 5% to 50%, 75% and 90% thereafter).
At Pecik’s investment firm Victory Industriebeteiligung AG no one was available to comment on the report. The original report said Pecik refused to comment.
