America Movil (AMX) has no intention to launch a hostile takeover bid for Telekom Austria, AMX CEO Daniel Hajj Aboumrad told a local publication.
Asked if the Mexican company was considering a takeover, the CEO said that no hostile moves were under consideration.
He described state holding OeIAG, which has the largest stake in TA, and the Austrian government as partners and AMX would co-ordinate all steps with them.
In the interview with Austrian News magazine he also rejected suggestions that AMX could sell its stake.
Hajj Aboumrad strongly criticised the recent frequency auction in the country, in which Telekom Austria spent more than €1bn. “We are not happy,” he said, also noting that a capital increase was likely.
Asked if AMX would participate if Telekom Austria decided to issue new shares, he reiterated that his company wanted to be a reliable partner, and that this would also be true if a capital increase was necessary.
In a separate article the magazine quoted Telekom Austria CEO Hannes Ametsreiter ruling out that a capital raise was under consideration to finance the newly acquired frequencies. But such a move could follow later if necessary to finance growth opportunities.
The magazine also quoted an OeIAG spokesperson as saying the holding would support a capital raise if it was to finance sustainable growth.
