Spanish incumbent Telefonica has offered E700m for a 49% stake in Columbian state owned telco Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota SA (ETB), El Economista reports.
The Spanish newspaper writes that Telefonica has already confirmed its interest in the Columbian operator, but that no financial details have emerged as yet.
ETB operates one in four fixed lines in the country and controls a third of the broadband lines in Columbia. The telco is searching for a strategic partner, a search which began in mid 2009 but slowed down in late 2009 due to legal issues. The search is now back on track and it seems Telefonica is a very likely candidate to fund further investment in ETB.
