Spanish incumbent Telefonica will launch a new content delivery network before the end of the year to expand its video services for the home, the company has confirmed.
According to a spokesperson, the product will be launched under the company’s Global New Services Unit, which is also expanding into eHealth, applications, security and financial services, cloud computing and machine to machine internet communications.
The move signals a possible shift in focus from Telefonica’s traditional voice and internet services model.
Vivek Dev, group director of Telefonica’s Global New Services, told TelecomFinance: “With the industry continuing to move at such a fast pace, we in turn need to respond by accelerating the growth and implementation of new services … Through our new Global Services Unit we will ensure that we are doing our very best to capture market place growth with world-class products for our customers. This move is a significant step forward and a spring board to provide future growth for the Group in new areas.”
