Spanish incumbent Telefonica has appointed Rodrigo Rato, a former head of the IMF, to the advisory boards of its European and Latin American businesses.
Rato is currently under investigation at the behest of a small political party following allegations of fraud during his time as head of Bankia.
While he was at the helm the bank had to be bailed out by the Spanish government and was subsequently nationalised.
He was previously Spain’s finance minister for eight years up until 2004.
