Spanish telco Telefonica and American credit card company MasterCard announced yesterday a joint venture to offer mobile finance capability in Latin America.
The JV will apply to 87 million current and potential customers in twelve countries, where Telefonica operates under the Movistar brand.
In a joint statement, the two companies said that the service would provide mobile payment services that would be linked to a “mobile wallet” or prepaid account.
These services would include money transfer, mobile airtime reload, bill payment and retail purchases.
