The board members of incumbent Telecom Namibia have yet to pick a successor to Frans Ndoroma, the company’s chief, who will step down on 1 November.
While some members have opted for chief human resources officer Andrew Kanime, others would prefer to see chief strategy officer Theo Klein get the job, according to local newspaper The Namibian citing sources.
A Telecom Namibia spokesperson declined to comment specifically on this aspect but confirmed that the recruitment process is not yet finalised.
Kanime has reportedly been offered a six-month contract in an acting CEO capacity, as a stop-gap measure. He has until 24 October to accept or reject the offer, the report stated.
Separately, the Namibian government recently decided to separate the incumbent from mobile operator MTC by dismantling the state holding company which owns them both.
Explaining the rationale for the separation, ICT minister Joel Kaapanda was quoted as saying, in early October, that it is “not good governance” for Telecom and MTC to be combined.
Besides MTC, Namibia is also home to TN Mobile, which is 100%-owned by Telecom Namibia.
