AGSM, the Italian antitrust regulator has said it is investigating whether Italian incumbent Telecom Italia has abused its dominant position.
According to a statement on the AGSM website, the operator allegedly practiced uncompetitive actions that affected rivals FastWeb and Wind Telecomunicazioni. Those companies accuse Telecom Italia of “technical boycotts” of their requests to activate customers’ phone lines. This allegedly involved both the ignoring and postponing of activation of new phone lines.
They also say that Telecom Italia offered “significant discounts” to customers, which thanks to the unbundling of the local loop, they feared would subscribe to competitor services.
