State-owned Telecom Egypt is considering launching an MVNO to increase its exposure in the lucrative mobile sector, Reuters reports quoting local media.
Communications Minister Tarek Kamel was quoted saying that the operator was currently preparing studies on setting up an MVNO.
Telecom Egypt already owns a 45% stake in Vodafone but seeks to be more involved in the mobile industry.
The minister reportedly recently said that Egypt was unlikely to offer a fourth mobile licence or a second fixed-line licence before 2013.
Telecom Egypt was not available for comment.
