Telecom Argentina has appointed Telecom Italia (TI) executive Oscar Cicchetti as its new CEO.
Cicchetti, who has been head of group special projects at TI since January, will join Telecom Argentina when his immigration process is complete, the Buenos Aires-based telco said in a SEC filing.
He replaces Stefano De Angelis, who is moving to TI to head up the consumer business unit.
De Angelis has agreed to continue as CEO of Telecom Argentina until Cicchetti is able to join the company, according to the filing.
Cicchetti joined the Italian incumbent in 1979 to look after network operations. He held several key management positions between 1997 and 2000, including head of the international business unit, head of strategy and head of the network division.
He left the group in 2001 to head up internet data company Netscalibur, which was sold to Infracom in 2006, and became managing director of the merged company.
Returning to TI in 2008, Cicchetti held several senior management roles, including head of strategy, before becoming head of group special projects.
Last week, TI and US investment firm Fintech agreed to extend the deadline to complete the US$960m sale of the Italian incumbent’s controlling stake in Telecom Argentina to 1 September. TI said all other terms and conditions of the sale agreement remain unchanged.
