Harri Koponen is leaving his role as head of Sweden’s Tele2 following “irreconcilable differences over leadership”, the group said in a statement.
CFO Lars Nilsson has been appointed interim CEO while the board looks for a replacement.
Quoted in media reports, chairman Vigo Carlund said Koponen’s leadership style was not what the company was looking for in the long term.
However, Tele2 said it would pursue the strategy embarked on by Koponen, who has led the telco’s expansion in Russia and Kazakhstan since joining as CEO in August 2008.
Reports add that Koponen, who will receive an 18-month severance package, is leaving on amicable terms.
