The Mexican antitrust authority, the Federal Competition Commission (CFC), has confirmed that it finds Telcel to hold a dominant position on the Mexican mobile market.
The CFC first made the announcement on October 28, 2009, and has now ratified its original ruling, due in part to Telcel’s subscriber and revenue market share as well as high profit over the recent years. The CFC states that Telcel’s market participation is 4x larger than its nearest competitor for subscriber figures and 5x for revenue.
The next move lies with the Mexican regulator, Cofetel, which is now expected to establish a form of asymmetrical regulation, which would balance out the market a little better.
