The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange has halted trading in Parter Communications, Israel’s second-largest mobile phone operator, saying the company was expected to make a “significant announcement.”
According to Israeli media reports, Parter will buy communications company 012 Smile, also known as B Communications. Trading is expected to resume after the announcement.
Trading was also halted in Ampal-American Israel Corporation, the parent company of 012 Smile.
012 Smile bought nearly a third of dominant local telecoms operator Bezeq for NIS6.5bn (US$1.76bn) in October 2009. 012 Smile is a business-user focused VoIP operator.
Parter and 012 Smile were unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
