TDC, Denmark’s largest telco, has acquired four blocks of 800MHz spectrum in a frequency auction that closed yesterday.
The company received licences for a 22 year period commencing in 2013 for four frequency blocks of 2x5MHz each, for a total amount of DKK627.8m (€84.5m).
20% of the full amount will be paid in 2012 and 10% per year during the subsequent eight years, TDC said.
A JV of Telenor and TeliaSonera also acquired 800MHz spectrum in Denmark.
The companies said in separate statements that their joint infrastructure company, TT-Netværket P/S, was awarded 2x10MHz for DKK111m (€15m), to further roll-out 4G in the country.
4G launched in Denmark in late 2010.Telenor and Telia previously agreed to merge their 4G, 3G and 2G mobile networks, with 4G sharing set to begin in a few months.
Currently, TT-Netvaerket has 4G on the 2600 and 1800MHz frequencies and reaches a large proportion of the population living in Danish cities. With access to the 800MHz frequency TT-Netvaerket will be able to build 4G networks in more sparsely populated areas, Teliasonera said.
