Russian regional fixed-line operator Tattelecom plans to launch mobile services in the Republic of Tatarstan, according to Telecompaper quoting local reports.
The operator reportedly expects to receive GSM frequencies in 2012, although analysts predict a shortage of frequencies in the region.
The government of Tatarstan holds 87.21% of Tattelecom, which reportedly boasts over 43% of the broadband market as well as 70% of the local fixed telephony market in urban areas and 93% in rural areas. At the end of 2010, it reportedly had 803,900 fixed-line subscribers and 262,500 broadband subscribers.
