Steven Tas has taken up his position as chairman of lobby group the European Telecoms Network Operators’ Association (ETNO), succeeding Luigi Gambardella who had been leading the body for the last four years.
Tas, head of Belgian incumbent Belgacom’s regulatory department since 2008, was elected to the position at ETNO’s annual general assembly held last October in Stockholm and began in the role on 1 January.
“Building on the extraordinary job of the outgoing chairman, I will focus 2015 as the year of digital reform,” Tas said in a statement.
“We are ready to support the new European Commission for a review of the regulatory framework and for policies that recognise the evolution of today’s digital markets.”
Tas joined Belgacom in 1994 and has held a number of different roles in its strategy team. He has been on ETNO’s board since 2009.
Gambardella remains on ETNO’s board and is vice president of public and regulatory affairs at Telecom Italia. He will be among the speakers at the 2015 TelecomFinance Conference to take place on 5 February in London.
