Tanzania may be looking at taking full control of Zain Tanzania stake after Bharti Airtel offered to buy out the government’s stake.
After finalising the acquisition of Zain’s African assets last month, Bharti reportedly approached Tanzania to buy the state’s 40% stake in Zain Tanzania for US$11m. However, the government also seems to be keener to regain full control of Zain Tanzania.
Earlier this year, the authorities were in talks to buy Zain’s 35% stake in PTO Tanzania Telecommunications Company (TTCL).
Neither the government nor the company was immediately available for comment.
