UK ISP TalkTalk plans to launch fibre broadband services in January 2011.
The group is guaranteeing “at least 15Meg” download speeds, according to an advert posted on its website.
Some reports warn that this bold guarantee could land TalkTalk in trouble because, under a crackdown from the Advertising Standards Authority, it will be forced to reject applications in areas where it is unable to honour the pledge.
For this reason, the majority of its competitors promote “up to 20Meg” broadband, even though regulator Ofcom recently found consumers usually reach barely a third of this.
TalkTalk was unable to disclose further details about its fibre plans, but a spokeswoman told TelecomFinance: “We’re entirely confident that when we come to release details of our Fibre Optic Broadband Boost it will be extremely straightforward and clear for our customers.”
TalkTalk already offers a variety of broadband packages through unbundled services on incumbent BT’s infrastructure, and earlier this year it announced its intention to use the telco’s fibre rather than deploy its own.
