Swisscom has appointed Mario Rossi as its new chief financial officer and plans to make major changes to its group executive board and create a new board for the core Swiss business in an effort to simplify its management structure.
The changes are set to come into effect on 1 January 2013 and, according to a group statement, are designed “to strengthen the management of the company’s Swiss business and increase efficiency within the group”.
Rossi succeeds Ueli Dietiker, who is stepping down at his own request. A certified public accountant, Rossi joined the Swiss telecoms group in 1998 as head of reporting and controlling and held various management roles within the finance division before his appointment to his current role as head of business steering.
The changes will also see the company create an autonomous Swisscom Switzerland management board to help the business stand up to increasing competition. Head of corporate business Urs Schaeppi will take over the management of Swisscom Switzerland on 1 January, however group CEO Carsten Schloter will remain “closely involved” in strategic issues.
Details of the new organisational structure will be worked out over the coming weeks, the company stated, and will include the merger of the Swiss business’ divisional marketing and brand communication divisions.
There will be two other key changes to the group executive board in addition to Rossi’s appointment. Outgoing CFO Ueli Dietiker will head up the group’s related businesses division and take on other internal directorships.
Andreas Konig will take over as CEO of Swisscom IT Services on 1 October, replacing Eros Fregonas, who left in April.
Specifically, the new group executive board from 2013 will consist of CEO Carsten Schloter, Swisscom Switzerland CEO Urs Schaeppi, Swisscom IT Services CEO Andreas Konig, Group Business Steering CEO Mario Rossi, Group Strategy & Innovation head Jürgen Galler, and Group Human Resources head Hans Werner.
