Carsten Schloter, the CEO of Swisscom, has died in an apparent suicide.
Schloter was found at his home in Freiburg this morning, according to a statement from the state-controlled telco.
The police is assuming that it was a suicide, and an investigation is under way to establish the circumstances of his death.
Schloter’s deputy and the head of Swisscom Switzerland Urs Schappi has taken over as acting CEO.
Meanwhile Mario Rossi became chairman of Fastweb and Ueli Dietiker took on the role as chairman at Swisscom IT Services, although the company said that these roles would not necessarily be permanent.
Hansueli Loosli, chairman of the board of directors, said: “The board of directors, group executive board and the entire workforce are deeply saddened and pass on their condolences to the family and relatives.”
Schloter became CEO of Swisscom in 2006 after joining the company as head of Swisscom Mobile in 2000.
