Russian telecoms holding Svyazinvest would reportedly be looking at buying a 51.8% stake in cable operator National Telecommunications (NTC), according to Telegeograpy.
Three Svyazinvest subsidiaries – Rostelecom, Uralsvyazinform and NortWest Telecom – have applied to the Federal Antimonopoly Service to buy the stake which could be worth US$1.4bn, according to reports.
Through its Mostelecom brand, NTC has a foothold in Moscow and the surrounding region, where Rostelecom is not present.
NTC reportedly has about 4.5 million subscribers in Moscow, the Moscow region, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk. The company offers cable TV, broadband and fixed telephony services.
