Finnish vendor Nokia is reportedly set to promote Rajeev Suri, head of its telecoms equipment subsidiary NSN, to CEO of the group at its AGM on Tuesday.
It will also outline a new strategy that will focus on NSN’s business line, after selling off substantially all of its handset and services assets, reported local daily Helsingin Sanomat citing unnamed sources.
Unit sale to Microsoft closed
As expected, Nokia today completed that sale to Microsoft. Nokia stated that the final price will be “slightly higher” than the €5.4bn (US$7.52bn) value it originally announced several months ago.
As reported previously, the deal’s terms have also been tweaked slightly, meaning Microsoft will no longer be acquiring a Korean factory or one Nokia has in India, which is subject to an asset freeze as a result of ongoing tax proceedings.
Microsoft will, however, be gaining 21 employees from Nokia’s China-based Chief Technology Office.
Stephen Elop officially steps down as CEO of Nokia today to join Microsoft as executive vice president of its devices unit.
Nokia said it has arranged a board of directors meeting “for early next week” to discuss its strategy.
