Swiss mobile operator Sunrise has acquired Lebara’s local operations.
The deal size was not revealed, although Sunrise confirmed that it has drawn CHF95m (US$99.92m) under its existing revolving credit facility “to fund the acquisitions and maintain a strong cash position on balance sheet.”
Sunrise said the transaction will make it the largest provider of prepaid mobile services in the country. Sunrise already has its own prepaid brand, Yallo.
Lebara, which has a focus on low cost international call and data services, will continue as a separate entity, and its name will remain unchanged.
The transaction completed on 1 July already, the companies said.
Sunrise is owned by private equity firm CVC.
