Connectivity Business News will present the webinar “Launching forward: The state of the launch market and what it means for the future of the space industry,” on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. EST. Register for the complimentary webinar here.
The live, 45-minute panel discussion is part of CBN’s quarterly webinar series, which addresses pressing topics within the satellite industry.
In a discussion moderated by Madeline Durrett, senior associate editor at CBN, four panelists will take on the evolution of the launch market, its pivotal role in the greater satellite industry, and the emerging technologies and sub-markets that present opportunities for startups looking to capitalize on a saturated market.
Panelists include:
- Austin Ellis, launch manager at satellite operator Spire Global;
- Dallas Kasaboski, principal analyst at satellite market research firm Analysys Mason;
- Devon Papandrew, vice president of business development at launch startup Stoke Space; and
- Maxime Puteaux, principal advisor at satellite market research firm Euroconsult.
The most popular launch mission type has shifted from governmental launches to commercial communications, according to CBN’s new Satellite Launch Dashboard released this week. The trend picked up in 2019, when SpaceX began using its Falcon 9 launch vehicle for its Starlink constellation.
The interactive launch database organizes global launch activity since 1957 into multiple datasets, including:
- Launches by country;
- Total launches over time;
- Launch vehicle; and
- Mission type.
As of Aug. 13, SpaceX’s 79 orbital launches in 2024 constitute 53% of 149 orbital launches worldwide this year and 91.8% of U.S.-based launches. Of the 79 launches, 57 were for SpaceX’s Starlink constellation.
Industry leaders on the upcoming webinar will discuss the implications of this trend, other factors transforming the launch market and a look ahead at what to expect in 2025.
