Saudi Telecom, Middle East’s largest telecoms company, has confirmed its intention to participate in the auction for Syria’s third mobile licence.
The telco expressed its interest to the Syrian government in a letter sent October 24 and confirmed this in a posting on the Tadawul, Saudi Arabia’s stock market.
The government has set a November 14 deadline for applications and Kuwait’s Zain, Turkey’s Turkcell, Qatar’s Qtel and the UAE’s Etisalat have already expressed interest in the auction.
Syria already has MTN Syria and Syriatel operating in the country with a combined number of subscribers of about 10.2 million.
