The mobile arm of incumbent Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has named Ranjith Rubasinghe as CEO.
The 12-year SLT veteran joins Mobitel from the group’s human resources business where he worked between 2008 and 2013.
Mobitel said Rubasinghe had a “wealth of experience in the fields of telecommunications and IT in several national and multinational organisations”.
He replaces Kapila Chandrasena, also CEO of SriLankan Airlines, who was acting in the role following Lalith Da Silva’s appointment as CEO of SLT in early 2013.
Mobitel is the number two operator in Sri Lanka, which is a five-player market. In the April issue of TelecomFinance, Da Silva said in an interview that the market was saturated and that the company was looking at consolidation opportunities. He added that SLT was open to tower sales.
