Sprint’s head of strategic planning Keith Cowan will leave the US wireless operator at the end of September.
Cowan, who was responsible for mergers and acquisitions, had joined the telco in the summer of 2007. Sprint said his departure was an agreed upon decision.
“Mr Cowan has kept up a very rigorous travel schedule during his five years at Sprint, including the commuting back-and-forth between his primary residence in Atlanta and our offices in Overland Park, Kansas,” said a Sprint spokesperson explaining his exit.
In May, Sprint’s CEO Dan Hesse had said that the operator was not looking at strategic alternatives until 2014 ideally, adding that he thought regulators would be open to further consolidation in the US market as long as it did not involve AT&T or Verizon.
Before joining Sprint, Cowan had a brief spell at Genuine Parts Company but prior to that he was at BellSouth Corporation (now AT&T). He was at the telco for more than a decade and held a number of positions including chief planning and development officer. Before that Cowan was a partner at law firm Alston & Bird.
