Asia-focussed VSAT provider SpeedCast has opened a pair of new international offices in Dubai and Beijing in order to expand its global footprint.
The company, which is headquartered in Hong Kong, said that the Dubai office will help it channel African telecommunications business as well as take advantage of the Middle Eastern VSAT market, which is one of the fastest growing in the world. As for its new China office, SpeedCast pointed to the increased presence of the Chinese in the African market and, as such, it will seek to support Chinese companies’ international expansion plans.
SpeedCast added that it is planning to open up additional international offices, although did not stipulate where. One of these is likely to be in North America with the company recently signing a multi-year capacity leasing agreement with Telesat.
Under the terms of that deal, SpeedCast is renting Ku band capacity on the North & Central America beams of Telesat’s Telstar 11N satellite, located at 37.5W. The orbital location means that Telstar 11N covers the Americas, the Atlantic and much of the EMEA region.
SpeedCast said that it is planning to use the capacity for its maritime solutions service SeaCast, which targets both offshore platforms and vessels operating in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean.
