UK mobile operator Everything Everywhere (EE) could bring forward its 1800MHz auction to early next year after receiving interest from several parties, reported the Mail on Sunday.
EE pledged to sell 25% of this spectrum in 2011 to gain regulatory approval for the merger between local mobile groups T-Mobile and Orange, which led to its formation.
The auction process could now be accelerated after the unconfirmed approaches.
Mobile operators, such as local rivals Vodafone and O2, could snap up the entire block in a move reported to be worth tens of millions of pounds.
UK regulator Ofcom’s ruling on 25 October to allow companies to repurpose their 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum for 3G services will also increase the sale’s value. Previously mobile operators in the UK had been required to use these bands for 2G services only.
EE declined to comment on the speculation.
