The ex-CEO of British mobile operator EE, Olaf Swantee, is to become the new head of Sunrise Communications (SIX:SRCG) on 9 May, the Swiss carrier said in a statement.
Swantee will be replacing Libor Voncina, who has headed Sunrise for more than 3 years and took it public last year. He left EE earlier this year after incumbent BT completed its £12.5bn takeover deal of the company. Swantee also previously served as head of Europe at Orange.
“For us this is an ideal transition after the fantastic work done by Libor, who made the company fit again and floated it on the stock market,” Sunrise chairman Lorne Somerville said in a statement.
“Olaf Swantee is a successful leader who is Swiss, sensitive to the requirements and opportunities of our market and who has successfully managed telecommunications and mobile service operators in several European countries,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Swiss operator has announced that Somerville is not standing for re-election as chairman of the board at the next general meeting of shareholders on 15 April 2016.
Peter Kurer, former chairman of UBS and a partner at BLR & Partners, is being proposed as a new member and chairman.
Michael Krammer, a former CEO of Orange Austria and E-Plus in Germany, and Robin Bienenstock, a fund manager and formerly lead analyst at Sandford Bernstein, have been proposed for election to the board of directors.
