Number three China Telecom has reportedly appointed Yang Jie as its new chair, replacing Chang Xiaobing who resigned on 30 December amid corruption allegations. Currently COO of the state-owned operator, Yang has also been serving as chair and CEO on an interim basis since Chang left.

The state-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) revealed the appointment on its official microblog, according to a Reuters report.
A spokesperson told TelecomFinance that the company will make an announcement as and when appropriate if there is any change in management.
Yang has previously served as VP of China Telecom Beijing Research Institute. He graduated from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications with a major in radio engineering in 1984 and obtained a doctorate degree in business administration from the ESC Rennes School of Business in 2008, according to China Telecom’s website.
