Cambodian mobile operator Smart Mobile is looking to merge its operations with that of competitor Star-Cell, according to the CEO of rival operator Cambodia Advance Communications (qb) cited by the Phnom Penh Post.
Alan Sinfield also said that his company is also interested in Star-Cell but via a buyout rather than a merger. He added that qb would pursue other M&A deals in the event it is unsuccessful with Star-Cell.
Smart Mobile is owned by Cyprus-based Timeturns Holdings while Star-Cell is controlled by TeliaSonera.
Smart, Star and qb did not return emails before going to press.
