Fixed-line operator Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) is looking to raise US$75m via a syndicated loan to expand its network, including mobile unit Mobitel, TelecomFinance has confirmed.
SLT had said in mid-July, that it intends to invest Rs5bn (US$45m) in Mobitel.
In separate news, Lanka Business Online reported a few days ago, that SLT was interested in buying local telco Suntel. The report was later denied by the company, which said that it formally withdrew from the due diligence process on 24 August.
Another local newspaper, DailyFT, now reports that two new bidders, Sri Lankan incumbent Dialog Axiata and holding company Vallibel One, have emerged for Suntel. Dialog has reportedly bid up to US$31m for the telco while Vallibel One has offered US$28m.
The companies could not be reached for comment before the press deadline.
Suntel has been for sale for quite some time with several companies reportedly bidding for the company. But all talks have so far failed to result in a transaction.
In April 2011, Dialog Axiata denied it was looking to acquire a stake in the company.
