Incumbent telco Slovak Telekom has completed its acquisition of local satellite broadcaster Digi from Romanian cableco RCS&RDS.
The DTH firm has joined Slovakia’s largest telco as a separate entity and subsidiary company, after regulators approved the deal on 31 July 2013. Financial details were not disclosed. Digi claims to have 270,000 TV and internet subscribers in the country.
The acquisition is part of a medium-term push to expand into the digital TV market, where Slovak Telekom already has a presence with its Magio platform.
It is the second DTH asset sale this year for RCS&RDS, which sold its Croatian satellite platform to Telekom Austria back in March.
Meanwhile the Slovak government is in discussions to sell its 34% stake in Slovak Telekom to German telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom, which controls the telco with a 51% holding.
