The Russian telecoms regulator Roskomnadzor and the armed force have agreed to free 1900MHz and 2100MHz frequencies to allocate them to mobile operator SkyLink and its regional subsidiaries, according to media reports.
Skylink, which is currently operator under the CDMA2000 1xEV-DO standard in the 450MHz band, is reportedly looking at launching UMTS services.
Only the three largest mobile operators, MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon are currently holding UMTS licences.
The company was not immediately available for comments.
