German pay-TV group Sky Deutschland announced in early March that it has acquired Loxxess Medienlogistik, a subsidiary of the logistics specialist Loxxess, for an undisclosed amount.
Loxxess Medienlogistik was founded in August 2006 under the name “Premus Logistik und Service” as a subsidiary of what was then known as “Premiere Fernsehen & Co” (Sky Deutschland’s predecessor). In 2007 it was sold to Loxxess.
Sky states that with the signing of the new contracts, and taking its customer care back in-house, it has 100% bought back Loxxess Medienlogistik and has simultaneously agreed to a long-term service contract with Loxxess for comprehensive logistic and customer care services.
Loxxess Medienlogistik distributes and activates smartcards, handles orders, returns and repairs of digital receivers and operates call centres. The company’s clients include Tele Columbus, Samsung and HD Plus, as well as Sky Deutschland.
Loxxess is a specialist in logistic outsourcing projects for producers and retailers and is based in Bavaria, with facilities in the Czech Republic and Poland.
Sky Deutschland’s total 2009 revenues came in at E902.1m, down from E941.1m the previous year, while losses grew from E269.4m to E676.5m. CEO Mark Williams stated at the presentation of the group’s 2009 results that focus is on the acceleration of subscriber growth, to achieve sustained profitability and a steadily growing ARPU. Earlier this year, the group announced an E110m capital increase, the proceeds of which are being invested in additional sales and marketing activities, as well as new channels, programming and the rollout of HD services.
