German satellite TV provider Sky Deutschland has appointed Chase Carey as its new chairman. Carey, already the deputy chairman, president and COO of the group’s majority shareholder News Corp, will replace Markus Tellenbach, the president and CEO of Polish commercial TV network TVN, who is now deputy chairman.
The seven other board members are:
z Stefan Jentzsch, a partner at Perella Weinberg Partners
z Mark Kaner, president at 20th Century Fox Television Distribution and member of the management of Sky Italia
z Miriam Kraus, Senior Vice President, Global Governance, Risk & Compliance at German technology giant SAP
z Thomas Mockridge, CEO of Sky Italia
z Guillaume de Posch, former CEO and chairman at ProSiebenSat.1
z Steven Tomsic, Director Corporate Finance and Planning, Europe and Asia at News Corp.
z Katrin Wehr-Seiter, an independent business and investment advisor.
Accepting his new role, Carey said: “I believe that there is considerable potential to grow pay-TV in Germany and Austria and I am committed to the future success of the company. This is a dynamic company that has achieved much over the last year and I am looking forward to working with the team in the months and years ahead to grow the business to deliver sustained profitability.”
A seasoned veteran of Rupert Murdoch’s empire, Carey’s previous roles include CEO at DirectTV, co-Chief Officer at Fox Entertainment Group and Director, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sky Global Networks. He has also served on the boards of served on the boards of NDS, Gemstar-TV Guide and BSkyB.
