SK Telecom has secured a licence for 20 MHz in the 1.8 GHz band auctioned in South Korea, according to a company statement quoted in the media. The company offered KRW995bn (US$927.3m), thereby beating rival KT Corp in a highly contested auction process. The amount is more than twice the minimum asking price of KRW445.5bn (US$412m).
KT did instead acquire10 MHz in the 800 MHz frequency band for the minimum bid price of KRW261bn (US$243.3m).
LG Uplus secured spectrum in the 2.1 GHz range earlier, paying KRW445.5bn (US$412m).
