All six companies which submitted preliminary bids for Poland’s upcoming 4G spectrum auction have qualified to take part in the second stage, telecoms regulator UKE has announced.
Bidders include Poland’s four mobile network operators – T-Mobile Poland, Orange Poland, P4 (Play) and Polkomtel (Plus) – along with potential new players Hubb Investments and NetNet.
Hubb Investments is controlled by tower infrastructure owner and operator Emitel, which is itself controlled by US-based investment firm Alinda Capital Partners.
NetNet, according to local media reports, is owned by Szyman Ruta, son of Heronim Ruta, who is on the supervisory boards of Polish telecoms and media company Cyfrowy Polsat and its telecoms unit Polkomtel.
UKE will award 19 15-year licences for frequencies in the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands.
The reserve prices for the licences in the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands are PLN6m (US$1.8m) and PLN2m (US$605,000) respectively.
Local media have reported that UKE could raise up to PLN1.8bn (US$544m) from the auction.
