Brazilian regulator Anatel has received six proposals ahead of the auction of spectrum in the 2.5GHz and 450MHz bands on 12 June.
In a statement the regulator said that four operators – Oi, TIM, Claro and Vivo – and two pay-TV firms – Sky and Sunrise, acquired last week by George Soros – have submitted bids for the different spectrum on offer.
It is not known which companies submitted bids for which bands of spectrum. The tender has proved controversial with telcos who have voiced concerns that the auction has come too soon.
Six companies launched challenges to the bidding process last month. The regulator rejected their concerns on Monday confirming there would not be any changes to the terms of the tender.
Anatel has stipulated that the 4G spectrum will go to the highest bidder, while the 450MHz band will be awarded to the company who can offer the best price for the consumer.
The Brazilian government is aiming for 4G coverage over all the major centres hosting the 2014 World Cup by December 2013, as well as over all Brazilian municipalities with populations of over 100,000 people by December 2016.
