Canadian fixed-line and DTH provider Shaw Communications has appointed Vito Culmone as CFO to succeed Steve Wilson, who retired last year after more than a decade in the role.
Culmone was most recently CFO for Canada’s WestJet Airlines. He will take on his new position on 1 June.
Shaw CEO Brad Shaw said: “We are excited to attract one of the country’s top business and financial executives to become one of our key senior leaders at Shaw.
“Vito’s extensive experience in regulated industries, his financial acumen and discipline, and his reputation as someone who believes in teamwork and collaboration will be exceptionally valuable as we continue to build momentum in our next phase of growth.”
Wilson announced his retirement in September and is credited for playing a key role in moves to expand the company, including its recent US$1.2bn takeover of Denver-based data centre operator ViaWest.
The group said earlier this week that it had secured US$480m in loans to repay ViaWest’s debt, after closing the acquisition in September, with a syndicate led by TD Securities and RBC Capital Markets.
