South African submarine cableco Seacom has promoted Byron Clatterbuck, the company’s current chief commercial officer (CCO), to CEO.
He replaces Seacom’s founder and executive director Brian Herlihy, who had returned to the CEO role in February last year.
Clatterbuck joined Seacom as CCO in 2012. In his role, he was responsible for driving revenue growth from African and global service provider customers and partners.
Prior to this, he was president of Tata Communications’ global service provider segment, having previously held senior executive positions at BT, Level 3, and Reach.
Seacom was established in 2007 by a group of African investors. Two years later, it launched the first broadband submarine cable system along the East African coastline linking South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Mozambique with internet connection hubs in Europe and Asia.
